Ballard Beavers

Location: Ballard

Coach: Alex Barashkoff (3rd year), 4-14 record

2006: 2-7 overall, 2-6 league

Returning starters (9 offense, 8 defense): QB Joey Bolinger, 6-3, 220, Sr.; FB/LB Colin Matthiesen, 6-0, 235, Sr.; WR/OL Max McGraw, 5-11, 180, Sr.; OL/WR Drew Plommer, 5-9, 185, Sr.; DL/OT Eric Sorensen, 6-2, 205, Sr.; OL/DL Kellen Jones, 6-3, 260, Sr.; OL Owen Scully, 5-8, 220, Sr.; OL John Hostek, 6-2, 220, Sr.; DL/OL Dominic Cascioppo, 6-1, 195, Sr.; LB/FB Jacob Kahle, 6-0, 210; LB/WR Zac Barta, 5-11, 190, Sr.; DB Max Girgis, 5-10, 190, Sr.

Other key returners: RB/OL Julian Montante, 5-7, 170, Jr.; WR Moussa Gloyd, 6-1, 195, Jr.

Outlook: Ballard has favorable schedule and won't face Bothell and Eastlake. If Bolinger, who has played since his freshman year, breaks out and team remains healthy, Beavers could have first winning season since 2004.

Bothell Cougars

Location: Bothell

Coach: Tom Bainter (8th year), 62-17

2006: 12-2, 8-0

Returning starters (3 offense, 3 defense): RB Jon Kirchner, 5-11, 195, Sr.; DB Nate Proulx, 5-11, 175, Sr.; LB/RB Cory Burk, 5-8, 170, Sr.; RB/LB Patrick Ottorbech, 5-8, 170, Jr.; LB/FB Trey Burwick, 5-8, 200, Jr.; DB/WR Ben Moschel, 6-0, 165, Sr.

Other key returners: QB John Hekker, 6-5, 200, Sr.; DB/WR Kurt Stottlemyer, 5-10, 165, Jr.; TE/LB Craig Monson, 6-2, 190, Sr.; DB/WR Nick Wiltz, 6-3, 190, Jr.; OL/LB Robby Storm, 6-2, 210, Jr.; OL/DL Jackson Pierce, 6-0, 220, Jr.; OL/DL Boone Nichols, 6-2, 195, Sr.; WR/DB Perry Conricode, 6-3, 185, Jr.

Outlook: Cougars graduated a lot of talent off state runner-up team, but plenty of skill-position players remain. Kirchner, who rushed for team-best 1,177 yards and 19 TDs, is back and Hekker has the arm to put pressure on opponents.

Eastlake Wolves

Location: Sammamish

Coach: Gene Dales (3rd year), 17-5

2006: 9-3, 7-1

Returning starters (7 offense, 5 defense): QB Ryan Robertson, 6-3 , 203, Sr.; OL/DL Drew Schaefer, 6-5, 275, Sr.; OL/LB J.J. Clark, 6-2, 215, Sr.; DL/TE Joey Rosanova, 6-2, 230, Sr.; OL/DL Ross Teare, 6-1, 272, Sr.; WR/LB Cory Mackay, 6-4, 200, Sr.; RB/DB Taylor Lappano, 6-0, 190, Sr.

Other key returners: OL/DB Cameron Hunt, 5-10, 165, So.; TE/LB Easton Fix, 6-3, 230, Sr.

Impact newcomers: WR/DB Kolby Kemp, 5-9, 170, Sr.; OL/LB Mike Woodey, 5-10, 190, Sr.; OL Scott Hunter, 6-2, 276, Sr.; RB/DB Steve Nasca, 5-10, 170, Jr.; DL Zach Nicholson, 5-11, 230, Jr.; OL/LB Derek Chaney, 6-0, 182, Jr.

Outlook: Wolves should have no problem putting up points behind Robertson, a second-year starter who threw for school-record 2,496 yards and 24 TDs. The key is the defense, which allowed only 10.8 points per game but has only five returning starters.

Franklin Quakers

Location: Seattle

Coach: Mario Bailey (4th year), 6-19

2006: 4-5, 4-4

Returning starters (6 offense, 5 defense): RB Sylvester Nzekwe, 6-1, 200, Sr.; WR Nick Ragland-Johnsen, 6-0, 158, Sr.; QB Aaron Harris, 6-2, 225, Jr.; LB Jordan Smith, 6-2, 230, Sr.; OL/DL Robin Wisner, 6-5, 275, Sr.; OL/DL Lozario Williams, 6-3, 270, Sr.; OL/DL Niko Seni, 6-2, 280, Jr.

Impact newcomers: RB/DB Nick Caldwell, 5-8, 170, Jr.; RB/LB Gary Smith, 6-1, 215, Sr.

Outlook: Bailey, former Franklin and UW receiving star, has long-dormant Quakers coming around. Powerful Nzekwe could be 1,000-yard runner as featured back. Defense, which allowed 24.1 points per game, must improve.

Garfield Bulldogs

Location: Seattle

Coach: Anthony Allen (3rd year), 1-17

2006: 0-9, 0-8

Returning starters (9 offense, 8 defense): DL/OL Deandre Coleman, 6-5, 288, Jr.; WR/DB Geordan Newbill, 5-11, 175, Sr.; DL/OL Brandon Harper, 5-11, 280, Sr.; K/P Max Renne Bohm, 6-0, 165, Sr.; DL/OL Warren Tia Tia, 5-11, 315, Jr.; WR/DB Carson Dunn, 5-11, 155, Jr.; OL/DL Caleb Hecker, 6-3, 225, Sr.; OL/DL Danny Althouse, 6-4, 200, Sr.; QB Sean Foster, 6-2, 160, So.; RB/DB Chris Owes, 5-9, 160, Sr.

Impact newcomers: TE/DB Jamaal Thomas, 6-4, 162, Sr.; DesJuan Newton, 5-9, 155, Jr.

Outlook: Allen is sole coach after sharing the job for two years with Al Roberts, now an assistant coach for St. Louis Rams. Bulldogs finally have some experience, particularly on lines, but need to find playmakers.

Inglemoor Vikings

Location: Kenmore

Coach: Frank Naish (29th year), 158-109

2006: 4-5, 4-4

Returning starters (6 offense, 6 defense): OL/DL Matt Gastineau, 6-1, 170, Sr.; WR/DB Mickey Mukai, 6-2, 180, Sr.; WR/DB Andy Palmer, 5-10, 175, Sr.; OL/DL Cody Sherwood, 6-3, 280, Sr.; RB/DB Alex Stanford, 5-10, 180, Sr.; RB/DL Brandon Thurston, 6-1, 210, Sr.; K/DL/RB Dave Sifuntes, 5-8, 195, Sr.; RB/LB Paul Ena, 6-2, 210; OL/LB Andrew Kienast, 6-0, 200, Jr.

Other key returners: OL/DL Debin Bailey, 6-2, 290, Sr.; OL/DL Willy Rogers, 5-10, 210, Sr.; RB/DB Ian Quinn, 6-1, 187, Sr.; RB/DB Jacob Swenson, 5-9, 178, Sr.; OL/DL Brandon Washington, 5-11, 200, Sr.; QB/DB AJ Murrow, 6-1, 180, Sr.; QB/DB Kurt Wagner, 6-1, 187, Sr.; QB/DB Todd Campbell, 6-4, 210, Jr.; OL/LB Erik Raynes, 6-0, 203, Jr.; RB/DB Austin Terry, 5-8, 158, Jr.; OL/DL Mike Lambert, 5-10, 189, Jr.; WR/DB Austin Hueter, 5-11, 177, Jr.

Outlook: Veteran-laden Vikings should find out a lot about themselves when they open Saturday against fifth-ranked Kentridge at Qwest Field. Thurston could star as a senior.

Juanita Rebels

Location: Kirkland

Coach: Steve Bennett (3rd year), 7-11

2006: 2-7, 1-7

Returning starters (5 offense, 5 defense): RB/DB Trevor Roush, 6-0, 175, Sr.; OL/LB Joell Reyes, 6-3, 230, Sr.; OL Mikhael Yitref, 6-1, 263, Sr.; WR Deron Harris, 6-2, 170, Sr.; QB Nick Olearain, 6-1, 155, Jr.; DL Brandon Wells, 6-2, 190, Sr.; DL Tyler Claxton, 6-3, 294, Jr.; DB Jake Ichikawa, 6-0, 163, Jr.

Other key returners: WR Isaiah Flowers, 6-1, 150, Sr.; CB Justin Lewis, 5-8, 134, Sr.; LB Brandon Holt, 5-10, 160, Sr.; HB/DB Barrett Belleman, 5-11, 151, Sr.; K Tyler Bjork, 5-10, 150, Sr.; OL/DL Trey Knapp, 6-3, 225, Jr.

Impact newcomers: RB/DB Calvin McAfee, 5-8, 178, Jr.; QB/DB Justin Trent, 5-10, 170, Sr.

Outlook: After eight consecutive state-playoff appearances (1983-90) under Chuck Tarbox, the program has been back only once (1994) since the legendary coach left. That seems unlikely to change this year, but Rebels feature some intriguing skill-position players, led by Harris, Olearain and Roush. Upper-division finish isn't out of question.

Lake Washington Kangaroos

Location: Kirkland

Coach: Michael Utschinski (1st year) 2006: 5-5, 4-4

Returning starters (3 offense, 5 defense): RB/DB Danny Hazen, 5-9, 170, Sr.; LB/OL Joe Semler, 5-9, 190, Sr.; DL/TE Sheldon Henne, 6-4, 210, Sr.; DL/OL Chris Hashimoto, 5-11, 220, Sr.; DL/RB Nate Woodring, 5-10, 180, Sr.; LB/RB Eric Folkers, 6-0, 185, Jr.

Impact newcomers: DL/OL Eric Gillison, 5-10, 185, Sr.; DB/QB David Rosser, 5-8, 160, Sr.; DL/OL Kyle Teteak, 6-1, 185, Sr.; DB/RB R.J. Moors, 6-0, 175, Jr.; DL/ST Brian Sinclair, 6-3, 230, So.; DB/RB Matt Hansen, 6-0, 175, So.

Outlook: Kangs' youth might make this a rebuilding year, but Utschinski likes what he sees. Three RBs, led by baseball standout Folkers, will attempt to replace graduated Justin Kim (1,470 yards, 17 TDs). Sinclair might be league's next great lineman.

Redmond Mustangs

Location: Redmond

Coach: Mike Pluschke (4th year), 13-15 2006: 6-4, 5-3

Returning starters (2 offense, 3 defense): FB/LB Trase Pickering, 5-11, 190, Sr.; OL/DL Trevor Guyton, 6-5, 290, Sr.; OL/DL Tyler Campbell, 6-5, 265, Sr.; TE/DL Blake Risenmay, 6-0, 190, Sr.

Other key returners: FB/LB Brian Landick, Sr.; OL/DL David Norton, 6-2, 275, Sr.; OL/DL Ryan Scallan, 6-1, 240, Sr.; WR/DB Taylor Gillum, 5-10, 195, Sr.; TE/QB/LB Luke French, 6-2, 195, Sr.

Impact newcomers: WR/DB Cameron Sandquist, 5-8, 160, Jr.; QB David Gilbertson, 6-1, 165, Jr.; WR/DB John Martino, 5-10, 165, Jr.; WR/DB Zachary Doleac, 6-2, 200, Sr.; RB/DB Allan Hall, 6-1, 175, Sr.; FB/LB Sean Shewey, 5-10, 200, Jr.; FB/LB Brian Slater, 5-10, 205, Jr.

Outlook: Mustangs' success depends on veterans adjusting to new roles. Redmond graduated its leading rusher, WSU's Logwone Mitz, and top receiver, Jabari Mu'ied. Defense could be a strength, particularly veteran line that includes Guyton, who committed to California.

Roosevelt Roughriders

Location: Seattle

Coach: Jeff Ware (5th year), 9-27

2006: 3-6, 3-5

Returning starters (6 offense, 5 defense): QB David Aberg, 5-11, 165, Sr.; OL/DL Silas Alexander, 6-0, 235, Sr.; OL/LB Daniel Espinoza, 6-0, 250, Sr.; TE/LB Andrew Jacobs, 6-3, 215, Sr.; OL/LB Mel Martinez, 5-10, 186, Sr.; FB/DL Cameron Stephan, 6-0, 195, Sr.

Other key returner: QB/LB Nick Foster, 6-2, 205, Jr.

Impact newcomer: WR/DB Jordan Moniz, 6-1, 180, Jr.

Outlook: Alexander and Espinoza give Roughriders experience on offensive line as third-year starters and should give Aberg time to throw. But finding playmakers on an offense that scored more than 10 points only twice and was shut out three times in 2006 will be a challenge.

Woodinville Falcons

Location: Woodinville

Coach: Wayne Maxwell (4th year), 26-11 2006: 8-4, 6-2

Returning starters (4 offense, 3 defense): OL/DL Ivan Leander, 6-0, 225, Sr.; QB Peter Roberts, 6-1, 190, Sr.; OL/DL Justin Mann, 6-3, 255, Sr.; WR/DB Eric Ninomiya, 5-10, 175, Jr.

Other key returners: RB/DB Kevin Schwend, 6-0, 205, Sr.; DL Will Lengel, 6-1, 210, Sr.; DL Graham Heller, 5-10, 205, Sr.; WR/DB Luke Moen, 5-11, 170, Sr.

Impact newcomers: WR Nick Surber, 6-3, 185, Jr.; WR/LB Michael Wymann, 6-2, 185, Jr.; WR/DB Matt Brumfield, 5-11, 165, Jr.; OL/DL Sam Graham, 6-2, 235, Jr.; OL/DL Andrew Kelly, 6-2, 235, Sr.; RB/DB Jordan Todesco, 5-8, 155, Jr.; RB/DB Tim Ip, 5-9, 165, Jr.; OL/DL Juan Villegas, 6-2, 245, Sr.

Outlook: Woodinville hasn't produced many star recruits since Tuiasosopo brothers, but have maintained success under Maxwell through defense. Falcons allowed 18.9 points per game in coach's first season and 10.5 last year. If offense led by Roberts can produce, expect third consecutive state trip.
